The Wiener Staatsoper has found its replacement for “Der Rosenkavalier.”
The company said that Krassimira Stoyanova will sing the Marschallin, replacing Lise Davidsen who is pregnant and has canceled all performances after March until 2026.
Stoyanova is known for her Marschallin, having performed it at the Wiener Staatsoper, the Salzburg Festival, and the Teatro alla Scala. Critics have praised her interpretation stating that “the Bulgarian soprano Krassimira Stoyanova, whose Marschallin was one of the most accomplished and moving assumptions of the role in my experience. From her first utterance in her amorous exchange with her young lover Octavian to the final extraordinary ‘Ja, ja,’ Stoyanova was in complete command of her voice and the character.”
The soprano joins a cast that includes Günther Groissböck, Emily D’Angelo, Adrian Eröd, Sabine Devieilhe, and Angel Romero. Adam Fischer conducts Otto Schenk’s legendary staging.
“Der Rosenkavalier” opens on June 9 and runs through June 17, 2025.
