By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of “Andrea Chénier.”

The company said that Luciano Ganci will sing the title role on Dec. 6 replacing Jonas Kaufmann, who is ill.

This is the second performance that Kaufmann cancels due to illness. He also canceled the performance on Dec. 3 and was replaced by Stefano la Colla.

Ganci is a well-known tenor who has appeared at the Teatro Verdi of Salerno, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Mariinsky Theatre, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, and Teatro di San Carlo, among others.

He is set to join a cast that includes George Petean and Maria Agresta.

Kaufmann returns for the final performance on Dec. 9, 2022.
