Luciano Ganci Replaces Francesco Meli in Wiener Staatsoper’s ‘Tosca’

Tenor Luciano Ganci will perform the role of Mario Cavaradossi in Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Wiener Staatsoper for performances on Dec. 27 & 30, 2021.

Ganci will replace Francesco Meli, who was originally scheduled to sing the role.

Ganci joins a cast that includes Gevorg Hakobyan as Baron Scarpia, Martin Häßler as Angelotti, and Saioa Hernández in the title role. The cast also includes Dan Paul Dumitrescu, Andrea Giovannini, Attila Mokus, and Marcus Pelz. Patrick Lange conducts a production by Margarethe Wallmann.

Ganci is a well-known tenor who has appeared at the Teatro Verdi of Salerno, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Mariinsky Theatre, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, and Teatro di San Carlo, among others.

Meli is currently in the middle of a run of Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he performs the role of Macduff.
