Wiener Konzerthaus Announces Cast Changes for Verdi Requiem

By Francisco Salazar

UPDATE: Buratto never officially joined the Requiem due to her schedule due to “Suor Angelica” rehearsals at the Wiener Staatsoper. She never canceled.

The Wiener Konzerthaus has announced cast changes for the Verdi Requiem on Oct. 28, 2023.

The company said that Eleonora Buratto would not participate in the performance due to scheduling reasons. As a result, Ewa Płonka will take over the soprano role in her place.

Additionally, Stefan Cerny had to cancel for health reasons, and as a result, Ferruccio Furlanetto will sing the bass part.

Furlanetto and Płonka will join a cast that includes mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk and tenor Michael Spyres. The Orchester der Volksoper Wien and the Chor der Volksoper Wien will be conducted by Omer Meir Wellber.

Buratto is set to perform in Puccini’s “Il Trittico” this October while Cerny is set to perform alongside the Volksoper in January.
