The Wexford Festival Opera is set to premiere “What Happened to Lucrece,” a unique opera experience with multiple endings.

The opera is set to stream between Oct. 13-15 and each night will offer up a different conclusion to the work. The opera was created during the COVID-19 lockdown by composer Andrew Synnott as part of the company’s “Waiting for Shakespeare… The Festival in the Air.” The opera is based on Shakespeare’s narrative poem “The Rape of Lucrece.” The libretto was written by Alessandra Binucci and Rosetta Cucchi.

The work features four singers and piano, including Sarah Richmond in the title role, Rory Musgrave as Sextus, Sarah Shine as Fran, and Kathleen Norchi as Collatine. Synnott will conduct while Giorgio D’Alonzo will perform at the piano. The production is directed and designed by Cucchi with Eoin McNinch designing the lighting.

The opera will be streamed daily at 8 p.m. via RTE.ie / Culture.
