Wexford Festival Opera Announces 2020 Festival
By Francisco SalazarThe Wexford Festival Opera has announced its 2020 season.
This season, the festival will present a program inspired by Shakespeare and will present three main stage operas as well as a number of concerts and pocket operas.
Main Stage
Goldmark’s “Ein Wintermarchen” will get a production by Dmitry Bertman with conductor Markus Bosh leading the work.
Performance Dates: Oct. 20-29, 2020
Walter Le Moli will direct Thomas’ “Le Songe d’une nuit d’été.” The French opera will be conducted by Guillaume Tourniarie.
Performance Dates: Oct. 21-27, 2020
Francesco Cilluffo conducts Catalani’s “Edmea.” The opera will be directed by Julia Burbech.

Lunch Time recitals
The festival will host a number of recitals from leading artists throughout the event.

Pocket Operas/Opera Bag
The new series will feature young Irish and festival artists and will be performed in different venues.
The first will be “Shakespeare in Love,” a collage of love scenes, arias, duets and quartet from operas, lieder, oratorio, concert, and popular songs.

The “Dark Side of Shakespeare” will present works from obscure and mysterious characters like Macbeth and Otello.

“Shakespeare for Fun” will be a reduced performance of Verdi’s “Falstaff” with the Wexford Factory and SinfoNua Orchestra.

Other Events
Lisette Oropesa headline a concert in an evening of coloratura arias.
Performance Dates: Oct. 30, 2020
A Gala concert will be presented with members of the festival company and will feature popular arias.
Performance Date: Oct. 24, 2020
The festival will close with Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, the composer’s final work.
Performance Date: Nov. 1, 2020
There will be a lecture entitled “Dr. Tom Walsh Lecture.”

“Late Night Cabaret des artistes” will feature various artists singing French, German, American and English cabaret songs.
Performance Dates: Oct. 22-31, 2020
There will also be Pop-up events and the establishment of Wexford Factory, a collaboration with Pesaro and Bolshoi for young singers who will get the opportunity to take part in masterclasses with Juan Diego Florez. They will also perform “Falstaff” in the main theatre at lunchtime.
