West Edge Opera Announces Additional Performance of ‘Snapshot’

West Edge Opera has announced that it will be adding an additional live performance of “Snapshot” on May 16, 2021, at 4 p.m. There is another performance set for May 15.

The showcase, which is part of the Snapshot series collaboration between West Edge Opera and Earplay, will feature several short operas by a number of unique artists. Among the works that will be performed are Nathaniel Stookey and Eisa Davis’ “Bulrusher;” Marella Martin Koch and Tyler J. Rubin’s “Ten Minutes in the Life or Death of;” Guang Yang and Paula Cizmar’s “Invisible;” Mark Campbell, Chiori Miyagawa, and Anne LeBaron’s “This Lingering Life;” George Pfirrmann and Peter B. Allen’s “The Promise;” and Noah Fram’s “The Glass Cage.”

“Ivonne” tells the story of an African-American girl growing up in Anderson Valley, California in 1955, while “Ten Minutes in the Life or Death of” is a collage of memories from a dying man. “Invisible” focuses on an art restorer and her assistant as they explore women in classical mythology while “The Lingering Life” explores opera in the Noh tradition. “The Promise” is about inheritance, a woman’s dying wish, and the ocean, while “The Glass Cage” is set in Afghanistan and explores repressed memories, PTSD, sexual assault, and the lingering impact of violence.

The operas will be conducted by Jonathan Khuner, Mary Chun, and Emily Senturia, with cast members including Alexa Anderson, Kevin Gino, Julia Hathaway, Molly Mahoney, J. Raymond Meyers, Erin Neff, Jo Vincent Parks, Deborah Rosengaus, Chad Somers, Shawnette Sulker, Krista Wigle, and Daniel Cilli.
