West Edge Opera Adds Vocal Artists to Major Leadership Positions
By David SalazarWest Edge Opera has announced that vocal artists Efraín Solís and Kenneth Kellogg will be taking on leadership roles in the company.
Solís is joining as a voting member of the board of directors while Kellogg will take on the position of Director of Marketing and Engagement. The company’s goal of including the baritone and bass in leadership is to open the door for artists to be involved in the decision-making processes that they are often excluded from.
“I’m excited and humbled to be joining WEO – a company that has always believed in me and invested in my artistic journey – as a member of their board. Always on the forefront of new opera and spotlighting rising talents in the Bay Area, I look forward to supporting West Edge and artists alike in continuing to be a home for ingenuity and artistic expression that reflects our communities while pushing the envelope of what our art form is capable of,” said Solís, in an official press release. The baritone has performed with such organizations as Opera San Antonio, Charlottesville Opera, Opera San José, Staatsoper Hamburg, Austin Opera, and Minnesota Opera among others. He performed with West Edge Opera in the 2023 production of “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” in the role of Laurentino.
“I’ve long admired West Edge Opera’s dedication to innovation and storytelling. It’s an honor to join a company that influenced my ideas about what opera could be,” added Kellogg. “I met Efrain my first time working at West Edge Opera in the 2014 production ‘Hydrogen Jukebox’ by Philip Glass. To join the company with him in 2025 is a testament to the community West Edge is building.”
Kellogg recently took on the West Edge World premiere of “Bulrusher.” He has also appeared with Lyric Opera of Chicago and is set for the world premiere of OperaCreole and OPera Lafayette’s “Morgaine ou Le Sultan d’Ispahan, Kourouschah.”
