Marialuisa Bafunno’s new immersive multimedia installation “Farinelli – The Voice That Remains” will premiere in Andria as part of the Castel dei Mondi Festival.

“The Voice That Remains” stars countertenor-soprano Nicolò Balducci in the title role. Rather than providing a biography of Carlo Broschi (Farinelli), this work explores modern issues by rereading Farinelli as a symbolic figure exposed to the world’s gaze. “The Voice That Remains” aims to restore his importance to his home community and, at the same time, revive the international and European dimension that also characterized the singer’s life.

The score, by composer Jacopo Raffaele features Baroque repertoire and contemporary writing for countertenor, spoken dialogue, harpsichord, and live electronics. Video and multimedia intervention transforms the space into a shifting surface of memories, presences, and interior visions, making the stage environment and seating an active part of the dramaturgy. Bafunno directs with Gaia Barco. They are joined by video designer Luca Attilii and Gianni Bertoli who is the lighting designer.

The Castel dei Mondi Festival is scheduled for September.
