Welsh National Youth Opera to Present ‘Panig! Attack!! The Seligman Youth Opera Performance’

Welsh National Youth Opera will present “Panig! Attack!! The Seligman Youth Opera Performance” on April 26, 2025.

The new opera, in English and Welsh, features music by WNO Youth Opera Music Director Dan Perkin with a libretto by Bethan Marlow and explores the story of two different gangs with different perspectives of the world.

“Bethan has done a great job of incorporating ideas from our young people and, as such, you can expect humour, a touch of the absurd, and perhaps even a zombie or two! But underneath all the chaos is a touching story about conflict, the futility of conflict, and how sometimes we’re so focussed on what makes us distinct from each other that it blinds us to the common ground we share,” Perkin said per an official press release. “The group has poured tremendous energy into this production, and you can expect the joyful, high-energy performance that has become WNO Youth Opera’s hallmark over the years.”

The opera will star Welsh soprano Jessica Robinson as Panicydd, and Cardiff-based baritone Mica Liberta-Smith as Attacker. The production also showcases the talents of BSL performer Sarah Adedeji, interpreting the role of Tali.

Hannah Noone directs, and Olivia Clarke conducts.
