Washington Concert Opera Launches ‘Operatic Insights with Maestro Walker’ Podcast Series
By Logan MartellWashington Concert Opera has announced the launch of a new, monthly podcast series, titled “Operatic Insights with Maestro Walker.”
Hosted by company Artistic Director and conductor Antony Walker, the series will explore the history and world of opera through varying perspectives, supported by listening examples and discussions.
The first episode, “Messages of hope and unification in opera,” has launched as of this week, and can be streamed on the series’ website, along with the topics for future episodes.
Since its founding in 1986, Washington Concert Opera has led the way in concert productions of operatic works in the D.C. area. The company also serves the local community through their work with elementary schools, universities, and young professional groups.
In addition to his position as Artistic Director at Washington Concert Opera, Walker is also Music Director at the Pittsburgh Opera and Founding Artistic Director and Conductor Emeritus with Pinchgut Opera. He has performed with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Opera Australia, Welsh National Opera, New York City Opera, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Orchestre Colonne (Paris), Wolf Trap Opera, Merola Program at the San Francisco Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Vancouver Opera, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Opera, and Welsh National Opera among many others.
