
Walter Roccaro Named Director of Conservatorio ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ di Como
By David SalazarWalter Roccaro, artistic director of the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, has been elected to lead the Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Verdi” di Como for the 2026–2029 academic term.
Roccaro was elected in the first round of voting, with the full quorum required by the institution’s regulations. He will retain his role as artistic director of the Luglio Musicale Trapanese alongside the new appointment.
“Roccaro has shaped the recent seasons of our organization, helping to consolidate its profile on the national lyric and symphonic scene,” said Filippo De Vincenzi, the institution’s delegated board member, per an official press release. “Today he brings that same rigor and vision to one of Italy’s most authoritative higher education institutions. We are doubly pleased: for the prestigious recognition, and because the new appointment will run alongside his artistic directorship of our organization.”
The Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” di Como is one of Lombardy’s oldest institutions of higher arts and music education, operating within Italy’s AFAM system. The conservatory trains hundreds of Italian and international students each year and maintains an active research and artistic production profile. Among its most notable recent projects is the “Turanda Project,” developed in collaboration with Casa Ricordi and the Accademia di Brera, which brought Antonio Bazzini’s opera “Turanda” to its first modern world staging.
