
Wagner’s ‘Die Walküre’ Set for Performances at Viking King’s Hall in Lejre
By David SalazarWagner’s “Die Walküre” will take the stage at Kongehallen, the Viking King’s Hall in historic Lejre, starting on June 7, 2026.
The opera uses the edition prepared by composer Jonathan Dove and director Graham Vick for Birmingham Opera Company, with costumes crafted using traditional Viking techniques. Ensemble Storstrom will provide orchestral support under the baton of conductor James Sherlock, with stage direction by Ida Kiberg.
The cast features bass-baritone Jens Søndergaard as Wotan, soprano Brit-Tone Müllertz as Brünnhilde, soprano Signe Asmussen Manuitt as Sieglinde, tenor John Michael Agnete Wrensted Olsen as Siegmund, mezzo-soprano Matilde Wallevik as Fricka, and bass Per Bach Nissen as Hunding. The Valkyries include soprano Elisabeth Rosenberg as Helmwige, mezzo-soprano Laura Helene Hansen as Waltraute, and soprano Julie Husballe Hansen as Rossweisse.
There will be additional performances on June 10, 12, and 14, 2026 for the production, which is supported by the Augustinus Fonden, the Sonning Fonden, the William Demant Fonden, the Beckettfonden, and numerous additional Danish cultural foundations.
