Vivica Genaux To Feature Prominently In Punchgut Opera’s 2018-19 Season

By David Salazar

Pinchgut Opera and Vivica Genaux are teaming up for two major productions in Sydney and Melbourne.

Per a press release, the mezzo will appear in Sydney to perform in the first-ever Australian production of Hasse’s “Artaserse,” before heading to Melbourne for a recital of baroque composers for one night only.

The mezzo will be joined by countertenors David Hansel and Carlo Vistoli for “Artaserse,” which will be presented in the 1740 revision and will be performed between Nov. 29- Dec. 5, 2018, at the City Recital Hall.

The recital in Melbourne will take place on Dec. 7, 2018.

“This is another opportunity for me to explore new music – I’ve never sung Artaserse before. The role of Mandane was written for Faustina Bordoni, Hasse’s wife, who is one of my favorite singers from the 1700’s – she had a very, very long career, was a fantastic figure and very good vocally, so I’m very much looking forward to singing this role,” Genaux stated in a press release.
