By Afton Markay

Virtually Opera has announced “The Uncanny Things Trilogy” to open in London this March.

“The Uncanny Things Trilogy” is three interactive and immersive opera in the same setting. The first is “In Come Bargain With Uncanny Things,” a ritualistic gathering tries to solve local problems, followed by “Come Worship Our Uncanny King,” where the audience is brought into an Uncanny Thing’s court try to win favor. The trilogy closes with “Come Murder An Uncanny Thing,” which focuses on deciding what justice looks like for a captive, dangerous, and powerful being. The final installment will make its world premiere during this run.

Leo Doulton, creator of Virtually Opera and the Trilogy said in a press release, “Combining opera’s ability to conjure worlds beyond our own with interactive theatre’s offer to step into other worlds has made something special: the chance to enter a world where being a human in a community matters deeply (and it feels like you’re doing magic, which is just fun).”

The cast includes CN Lester, Sarah Griffin, Carol Schuster, Amy Kearsley, Hestor Dart, and Maggie Vaz Neto. Charley Ipsen serves as Designer and Erika Gundesen is the Musical Adviser. The music is full improvised to match the changing between worlds and enhance the magic.

Works parts of “The Uncanny Things Trilogy” are supported by a Britten Pears Foundation Creative Retreat, the International Opera Awards Foundation Bursary, Tête à Tête, Voidspace, and private investors.

Preview dates are March 4-6, with show dates being March 7 – 30. COLAB Tower hosts the events.
