Vira + Friends to Present ‘Sweet Mystery’

Vira + Friends will present “Sweet Mystery” at the OPERA America National Opera Center on April 4, 2025.

The showcase will honor the songs of Victor Herbert and women dramatists from the 1910s and 1920s. Performers include contralto Vira Slywotzky, tenor Todd Wilander, and pianist David Sytkowski.

Slywotzky has performed with such companies as Seattle Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Chelsea Opera, Center for Contemporary Opera, Sarasota Opera and Boston Midsummer Opera. She is among the founding members of the Victor Herbert Renaissance Project LIVE and has performed eight roles by Herbert, as well as several of his songs in concert.

Meanwhile, Wilander has performed over 80 opera roles across the U.S. and 16 other countries. He has appeared with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, New York City Opea, Angeles Vocal Arts Festival, Opera Hong Kong, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro La Fenice, Opera North, Portland Opera, Mississippi Opera, Opera Memphis, Opera Zuid, and Dublin Opera, among other others.

The concert kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time. There will be a pre-show talk with Herbert scholar and producer Alyce Mott starting at 6:45 p.m.
