Australia’s Victorian Opera has announced changes for its upcoming production of Schubert’s “The Friends of Salamanca.”

The Youth Opera is set to be staged at the Arts Centre Melbourne Hamer Hall on Oct. 1 and 2, 2021.

The showcase will be directed by Emma Muir-Smith, who will add English dialogue to the opera. The opera will include singers and musicians between the age of 15, all under the musical direction of conductor Fabian Russell.

“The Friends of Salamanca” tells the story of a group of friends who fall in love with each other’s friends and must outwit Count Tormes to realize their romantic fantasies.

Victorian Opera recently announced that it would be canceling its historical performance of “Voss” due to continued concerns over COVID-19 and subsequent government regulations.
