Vasilisa Berzhanskaya Announces Major Change in Career
By Francisco SalazarVasilisa Berzhanskaya has announced she is returning to the soprano repertoire.
The Russian singer took to social media and announced the news, stating, “Dear friends, I am thrilled to share an exciting development in my musical journey: I am returning to my original voice type, soprano. For those who know me well, this won’t be a surprise, as I started my way as soprano. Switching to mezzo-soprano was a creative step for me, a rewarding chapter of artistic growth and exploration. And it’s common for singers with ‘long’ voices who begin singing at a very young age.”
She added, “The mezzo-soprano phase lasted 10 years, during which I performed a multitude of interesting, challenging, and diverse roles. It is important to note that soprano roles have always remained a part of my repertoire, and over the years, I have also performed many iconic soprano roles. This experience has enriched my artistry and prepared me for the next phase of my career. As contracts with theaters are signed for several years ahead, I will continue to perform some mezzo-soprano roles that were previously agreed upon for a few more years. I really can’t wait to meet my new roles and I’m so excited about that.”
This season, Berzhanskaya returns to the Paris Opera, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Dutch National Opera, and Teatro Regio di Torino, among others.
