Valley Opera & Performing Arts to Present COVID-19 Set ‘La Bohème’

Valley Opera and Performing Arts is set to present a Uniquely Relevant Production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.”

The opera, which is set to be presented on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1, 2023, features a concept by Dylan F. Thomas and stage direction by Brayden Hade. The production will bring the classic opera back to the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in the year 2020.

The production seeks to evoke a profound reflection on the enduring power of love and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of extreme adversity.

The role of Mimi will be portrayed by soprano Shira Renee Thomas and tenor Xavier Prado will portray the role of Rodolfo. The cast will be rounded out by Gabriel Manro as Marcello, Agnese Gallenzi as Musetta, Adam McCrory as Schaunard, Eric Castro as Benoit/Alcindoro, and Phil Meyer as Colline.

The VOPA Orchestra will be led by conductor Geoffrey Pope. The opera will be performed at the Sally Field Performing Arts Center in Lake Balboa and the Birmingham Community Charter HS.
