Valery Gergiev Elected Co-Chairman of the Union of Theater Performers of Russia

Valery Gergiev has been elected co-chairman of the Union of Theater Performers of Russia.

The Pro-Putin artist was elected to the position on Dec. 4, 2023 by the Congress of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia, the General Director of the Great Theater of Russia, and the Artistic Director – Director of the Mariinsky Theater.

This is the second position that Gergiev obtained this week. He was also named the General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre.

Since the war began Gergiev has been one of Putin’s biggest allies and has lost all his positions and conducting jobs in the western world. Outside of Russia he has only conducted in China, where he was received with sold out houses.
