Soprano Valentina Nafornita has announced that she will be canceling her contract in Berlin to sing “La Bohème” following the birth of her child.

In a social media post, the soprano stated, “My dear friends, I hope you are all doing great. I am having a wonderful time with my baby boy, but unfortunately I have to cancel my next contract in Berlin ‘La Boheme’ because we are not ready yet for traveling and moving around. I still need some little time to fully recover but mostly I am trying to take care of my son and it is to early for him to travel at this point, a couple weeks old, to another country and have his mother always at the rehearsals while he needs me constantly now.

“I am sorry to do this but I am very grateful to @staatsoperberlin for the understanding,” she continued. “And we hope to find another date for my comeback to Berlin. Sending you all my love and see you soon on another stage. Toi toi toi to my amazing colleagues.”

The production is set to open on Dec. 15, 2023 and runs through the 28th.
