Undead Arts & New Jersey Symphony to Present ‘The Magic Flute’
By David SalazarUndead Arts, in collaboration with the New Jersey Symphony, will present a reimagined production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” on May 2 and 3, 2026, at the Harborside Atrium in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The family-friendly, 90-minute production relocates Mozart’s opera to the New Jersey Pine Barrens and is told through the perspective of Jersey City youth. Performances take place in the Harborside Atrium, transforming the space into a setting inspired by spirits, witches, and regional folklore.
The production features musicians from the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players led by New Jersey Symphony Colton Conducting Fellow Gregory D. McDaniel. The cast includes international opera singers alongside a youth ensemble drawn from Jersey City public schools and surrounding communities.
The production is produced by Undead Arts founders Molly Dunn, Katy Gardiner, and Catriona Rubenis-Stevens. Rubenis-Stevens directs, with art direction by Gardiner, a reimagined script by Undead Arts, and a modern English translation by opera lyricist Bea Goodwin.
In addition to the Jersey City performances, the New Jersey Symphony and Undead Arts will collaborate on a “Concerts for Young People: The Magic Flute.” The program will appear at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway on March 18, 2026, followed by performances at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood on March 19, 2026, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on March 24, 2026.
