U.K.’s HGO to Present ‘Eugene Onegin’

U.K.’s HGO is set to present Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” this November at the Jackson Lane Theater.

The opera will be directed by Eleanor Burke and conducted by John Paul Jennings. Ambrose Connolly and Joylon Loy are taking on the title role. As Taytana, audiences will experience the talents of Hasmik Harutyunyan and Nicola Said while Lensky will be interpreted by Matthew Curtis and Martins Smaukstelis. Other cast members include Arina Mkrtchian, Katey Rylands, Jacob Bettinelli, Wonsick Oh, Valerija Illjin, and Erin Spence, among many others.

The organization mentioned that the production has received support from The Arts Society Greater  London Area, The Boris Karloff Charitable Foundation, The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, The Fidelio Trust, Friends of HGO, The Thistle Trust, and David Ure.

HGO was founded in 1990 by Roy Budden as the “Hampstead Garden Opera.” The organization has gone on to win the NODA London Opera Award for its 2020 production of “La Bohème” and the 2021 accolade for its “Le Nozze di Figaro.” It also took home a 2023 Off West End Opera Performance Award for its production of “The Cunning Little Vixen.”
