
Two Cast Changes for Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Moby Dick’ Announced
By Francisco SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera has announced two cast changes for the March 25 of “Moby Dick.”
The company said that Peter Mattei has withdrawn from the performance and in his stead, the role of Starbuck will be sung by Thomas Glass. Meanwhile, Dominick Chenes will sing Greenhorn, replacing Stephen Costello.
Glass sang the opening night performance of “Moby Dick” on March 3 and the March 22 performance. His Met Opera debut came in 2022 in “Madama Butterfly” and most recently, he appeared in the 2023 Summer Recital Series. In addition to his Met performances, Glass has appeared with the Atlanta Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Arizona Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, and Houston Grand Opera.
Meanwhile, Chenes has performed with Oper Leipzig, New Orleans Opera, Opera Orlando, and Oper im Steinbruch. He has also performed with the Boston Lyric Opera, the Boston Youth Symphony, the Palm Beach Opera, and Utah Opera.
Glass and Chenes join a cast that includes Brandon Jovanovich, Janai Brugger, William Burden, Malcolm MacKenzie, and Ryan Speedo Green. Karen Kamensek conducts the production by Leonard Foglia.
