Tulsa Opera is set to present “Frida Kahlo and the bravest niña in el mundo” as part of its 2024 Raise Your Voice Tour of Green Country schools.

The 45-minute opera by Joe Illick and Mark Campbell will be presented in a Spanglish version by Arlene Martínez-Vásquez. The work tells the story of Mariana, a girl who lives in Mexico City. She visits Frida Kahlo to have her portrait painted, leading to a friendship between the renowned artist and Mariana.

The tour will feature performances to over 7,000 elementary school students from over 50 schools.

The first performance is set for March 18 at the Central Library. That will be followed up by a showcase on March 21 at Hardesty Regional Library. The final presentation is set for March 22 at Martin Regional Library.
