Tri-Cities Opera Announces Winners of Virtual Voice Competiton

Tri-Cities Opera has announced the winners of its 2020 Virtual Vocal Competition.

Baritone Schyler Vargas took home the Wilson Family Prize (First Place) which included $3,000 and a future role with the organization. In Second place with the Federal Credit Union Prize and $2,000 was soprano Chasiti Lashay. Coming in a tie for the third place George Akel Memorial Prize (and a cash prize of $1,000 each) were soprano Rachel Blaustein and bass Allen Michael.

Finally, the Hibbit Savoca Prize, which includes a residency with Tri-Cities Opera and $100, was soprano Melissa Joseph.  The Audience Choice Award, which includes a cash prize of $250, was soprano Kelly Glyptis.

The remaining finalists, which included tenor Aaron Crouch, soprano Symone Harcum, soprano Grace Kahl, tenor Dane Suarez, and baritone Ethan Vincent all received $100 each.

The final was streamed live on Oct. 18, 2020.
