The COVID-19 crisis in the German federal state of Saxony is getting worse, with 7-day incidence currently at 761.4.

For this reason, Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer organized a video conference with medical experts, scientists and representatives of social groups on Nov. 17, 2021.

In view of the dramatic COVID-19 situation in Saxony, the Saxon hospital coordinator Michael Albrecht is calling for an immediate lockdown.

“We can see that the measures taken so far have not achieved anything. There is no decrease in the number of patients,” said Albrecht. “We must enter a full lockdown for at least 14 days, or we will lose control over a situation.”

Such a lockdown would also close down the Semperoper Dresden.

Prime Minister Kretschmer is in favor of a lockdown in order to slow the spread of a new wave of COVID-19. Details will be announced during cabinet meeting on Dec. 19, 2021.
