Toledo Opera Now Accepting Applications to Participate in ‘View Than Voice’ Focus Groups

By Chris Ruel

Toledo Opera has announced it is now accepting applications for first-time Toledo area opera-goers to take part in “View Than Voice” focus groups. The initiative’s goal is to build up the next generation of opera fans.

Applicants selected to participate in the program will receive two tickets to attend the company’s production of “Il Trovatore” on either Oct. 8 or Oct. 10, 2021. During the week of Oct. 11, Toledo Opera requires all participants to attend focus groups to provide feedback, turning first-timers into critics. Along with the two gratis tickets, those selected will receive a $50 honorarium.

In a press statement, Alyssa Greenberg, community engagement director for Toledo Opera, stated, “This project was inspired by ‘Look at Art. Get Paid.,’ a model co-created by artists Maia Chao and Josephine Devanbu. We believe we can learn a lot from first-time opera attendees. We look forward to meeting our participants, listening to what they have to share, and developing impactful ways to engage more deeply Toledo area residents.”

Applications are available on the company’s website, and the deadline is Aug. 27, 2021.
