Opera Philadelphia is set to close its 2024-2025 season with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”

The opera will be performed at the historic Academy of Music in a new production led by American stage director Alison Moritz. Jack Mulroney Music Director Corrado Rovaris will lead the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra, with Elizabeth Braden leading the Opera Philadelphia Chorus.

In a statement, Moritz said, “Working on this beautiful, terrifying, and unwieldy masterpiece is always a challenge and, in this case, we have really challenged ourselves to look at the opera with fresh eyes. ‘Don Giovanni’ is an absolute jewel in the operatic repertoire and deserves to be examined from all angles, like a multi-faceted gem. We’re building a world onstage especially designed to respond to the architecture of the beautiful Academy of Music and create an arena for Mozart’s glorious music.”

The cast will include Timothy Murray in the title role, Olivia Smith as Donna Anna, Khanyiso Gwenxane as Don Ottavio, Elizabeth Reiter as Donna Elvira, Nicholas Newton as Leporello, Amanda Sheriff as Zerlina, Kevin Godínez as Masetto and Raymond Aceto as the Commendatore.

“Don Giovanni” will be performed between April 25 and May 4.
