State theaters, opera houses, and concert venues of the German federal state of Thuringia have decided to extend closures until May 2021.

The decision comes as a result of a decision made by the German federal government and Prime Ministers of German federal states to extend the COVID-19 lockdown until March 28, 2021. A meeting between all the state theaters, opera houses, and concert venues of the state of Thuringia and the Minister of Culture Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff then took place on March 4, after which it was decided to further extend the closure.

“The cultural landscape comes into a bounce situation here,” said Minister Hoff.

Hoff emphasized that the state theaters and concert venues favor common regulations, even if the different cities and regions have very different seven-day infection incidences.

Thus, state theaters, opera houses, and concert venues of the German federal state of Thuringia join the Komische Oper Berlin in extending their closures until May 2021.
