The Komische Oper Berlin has announced that it will cancel all performances until May 1, 2021.

Per an official statement on the company’s website, the opera house said that it was forced to cancel the presentations in April due to the current epidemiological situation. The opera house believes that the decision is in the best interest of the artists, employees, as well as potential spectators. The Komische Oper is planning to resume performances starting on May 1, 2021, if the pandemic circumstances allow.

Almost all German opera houses have canceled their performances until April 2021. The Semperoper Dresden has canceled the remaining part of its regular 2020-21 season and announced its intention to launch an alternative program between April and July 2021.

The Komische Oper Berlin is the first German opera house to cancel performances in April 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic concerns. The German federal government has extended the state of hard lockdown until March 7, 2021.
