The Theater an der Wien has announced changes to its 2024-25 season.

The company said, “After two and a half years of construction, the renovation and modernization of the Theater an der Wien has been completed and we are looking forward to celebrating the grand opening on Oct. 12, 2024. In order to guarantee a smooth interaction between the complex stage technology and all technical areas, a large number of training courses, inductions, test runs, stress tests, and safety checks are necessary. This intensive process will take several more weeks and will unfortunately affect operations in the first few months.”

This will lead to changes in the schedule with a concert performance of Mozart’s “Idomeneo” under the musical direction of David Bates, with the Vienna Symphonikers and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir instead of a production.

Robert Schumann’s “Das Paradise und die Peri” will also be presented in concert performances and instead of the family opera “Der kleine prince” planned for December, a concert family project is being planned. The two concert operas “Rodelinda Regina de ‘ Langobardi” (18.11.2024) and “Alcina” (19.12.2024) will go as planned.
Finally, the first staged production will be Strauss’ “Das Spitzentuch der Queen” at the Theater an der Vienna in January 2025. Audiences will receive a refund for staged performances of “Idomeneo”, “Das Paradise und die Peri” and the family opera “The Little Prince.”
