The San Francisco Early Music Society Announces ‘The Berkeley Festival & Exhibition’ Lineup

The San Francisco Early Music Society is set to host the 18th biennial “Berkeley Festival & Exhibition.”

iSing Silicon Valley, the World Champions at the 2023 World Choir Games in Seoul, South Korea make their debut the Festival with Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and excerpts their new album, “Love & Light.”

Performance Date: June 8 & 10, 2024 (Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph & First Church Berkeley UCC)

Chanticleer and Alkemie present Machaut’s “Messe de Nostre Dame” along with medieval minstrels’ songs accompanied by dance performances.

Soprano Amanda Forsythe collaborates with Voice of the Viol in a concert featuring compositions by William Byrd, John Dowland, and more.

Performance Date: June 11, 2024 (Berkeley City Club)

La Fonte Musica makes its American debut with “Dantenova: The Music From The Divine Comedy.” Michele Pasotti leads the early music ensemble on period instruments and vocalists including sopranos Francesca Cassinari and Alena Dantcheva, and tenors Gianluca Ferrarini, Massimo Altieri, and Efix Puleo.

Alkemie performs 13th-century trouvère songs, dances, and motets in “Love To My Liking: Refrains Of Desire In Gothic France.”

Soprano Amanda Forsythe and Voices of Music persent “My ‘Opera:’ In the Salon of Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy.”Scholars Matthew Dirst and Annette Richards will provide musical commentary.

La Fonte Music returns to the stage with works by Antonio Zacara da Teramo in “Enigma Fortuna: On the Cusp of the Renaissance.”

Cappella Pratensis perform Obrecht’s “Missa Maria Zart.” Singers include Stratton Bull, Tim Braithwaite, Andrew Hallock, Lior Leibovici, Korneel van Neste, Peter de Laurentiis, Pieter De Moor Pieter, Julian Podger, Marc Busnel, Maté Bruckner, Grantley McDonald, Donald Bentvelsen, and Bram Trouwborst.

The music of George Frideric Handel and Antonio Vivaldi is presented by Voices of Music, with soloist Amanda Forsythe.

“Music from the South American Missions” is performed by tenor David Kurtenbach Rivera and the Caima Yyai Jesus ensemble.

“Canons of Beauty” features the music of Mouton and Desprez presented by Cappella Pratensis.
