The San Francisco Early Music Society Presents ‘Invitation to a Salon’

By Afton Wooten

The San Francisco Early Music Society will present soprano Sherezade Panthaki and the early music ensemble Musica Pacifica in “Invitation to a Salon,” a French Baroque concert.

The program features music that would have been enjoyed in a typical Parisian salon of the mid-18th century; suites and sonatas by Jean-Philippe Rameau and Jean-Marie Leclair; one of Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Paris” quartets; and vocal music from Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Frideric Handel and Louis-Nicolas Clérambault.

Panthaki collaborates with Judith Linsenberg, Musica Pacifica’s artistic director and recorder player, violinist Ingrid Matthews, co-director Alexa Haynes-Pilon on cello and viola da gamba, harpsichordist Charles Sherman, therobo player John Lenti.

Concerts take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Palo Alto, First Church Berkeley UCC, and at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco on Jan. 12-14, 2024, respectively.
