
The Opera Buffs to Present ‘New Opera Pop-Up’
By David SalazarThe Opera Buffs will present a “New Opera Pop-Up” on May 18, 2025 at The Stowaway.
The showcase will feature five contemporary mini-operas, each 10 minutes in length. The operas include “It’s a Tragedy” by Marc L. Vogler, which is the story of a German composer rehearsing scenes from his newest tragedy based on Nietzsche’s ‘The Birth of Tragedy. The opera stars Emily Scott and Sergio Manzo.
Daniel Voigt and Sabrina Langlois headlined Rachel J. Peters’ “Steve,” which tells the story of Ann, who attends her synagogue’s singles mixer only find a reincarnation of her dead mutt.
“A Fragile Filament,” a work by Robert S. Cohen, stars Emesh Wijewardena as Thomas Edison. Erin Alford and Julia Maria Johnson headlined “She’s Fabulous,” by Tony Solitro. This opera focuses on two divas offering each other critiques during intermission.
Finally, in Ben Stevenson’s “Toxic X,” starring Voigt, Rachel Yeo, and Adrian Melendrez, ex-lovers come back to haunt the protagonist just as they find the person they have been looking for.
“From an opera about a woman who meets her reincarnated dead dog at a singles mixer to an opera about the tragic love life of Thomas Edison, these operas do not disappoint,” the company stated on its official marketing materials.
The performance kicks off at 7 p.m. and has a duration of 90 minutes. The event will also feature complimentary bar snacks.
