The Dallas Opera Announces Three Major Leadership Appointments
By David SalazarThe Dallas Opera (TDO) has announced three major appointments.
The company appointed Nicholas Ivor Martin as Director of Operations, Matthew Hrdlicka as Director of Artistic Administration, and Greta Shelley Medina as Public Relations and Strategic Relations Advisor for Mexico and Latin America. All three started in September 2026, following an international search.
Martin was previously Vice President of Artistic Operations at Lyric Opera of Chicago and served as TDO’s labor relations consultant. He oversees the production and technical teams for the company’s mainstage productions, concerts, and performances.
Hrdlicka joins from Pittsburgh Opera, where he was Artistic Coordinator from 2023 to 2026 and oversaw the Resident Artist program. He leads TDO’s Artistic Administration department, which handles casting, visiting artists, and young artist programs including the Vocal Competition and the Linda and Mitch Hart Institute for Women Conductors.
Shelley Medina began on Sept. 1 and has worked in foreign affairs and classical music public relations. Her role focuses on raising TDO’s profile in Latin America and on international fundraising. She previously worked for the Mexican Department of Foreign Affairs and has represented artists and institutions including Javier Camarena, Bryn Terfel, Nadine Sierra, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería.
“As our new Director of Operations, Nicholas Martin brings tons of experience in backstage logistics and union negotiations. Matthew Hrdlicka, now our Director of Artistic Administration, has one of the greatest ears and artistic minds of his generation,” said David Lomelí, TDO’s Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO, per an official press release. “The Dallas Opera is one of the top opera houses in the world, thanks in no small part to our phenomenal artistic and operations staff, and I can’t wait to see how Nicholas and Matthew further propel us into the future.
Regarding Shelley, Lomelí added, “Greta Shelley has been the leading PR agent in Latin America and classical music for the past 10 years,” Lomelí says. “She has accomplished great fundraising goals for different Latin American artists, and I know she will do great things with TDO.”
