
The Cleveland Orchestra Announces New Gift from Eric & Jane Nord Family Fund
By David SalazarThe Cleveland Orchestra has announced a major expansion of its education initiatives supported by a new gift from the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund.
The gift will establish the Jane B. and Eric T. Nord Education Leadership and Internship Endowed Fund, which aims to strengthens the Orchestra’s education leadership team and endows the Jane B. and Eric T. Nord Vice President of Education & Community Engagement position.
Joan Katz Napoli, who has long held the role, will remain in the position.
“This gift is a powerful reminder that education is at the heart of everything we do at The Cleveland Orchestra,” said André Gremillet, President & CEO, per an official press release. “Jane Nord’s extraordinary generosity has helped shape and provide greater accessibility to our education programs for years, and this new investment ensures we can keep inspiring and engaging future generations with excellence and purpose.”
Education has been central to the Orchestra’s mission for more than a century, a commitment underscored this past October when nearly 10,000 students attended Music in Motion Education Concerts at Severance Music Center. These performances featured The Cleveland Orchestra alongside dancers from Cleveland Ballet and Inlet Dance Theatre.
The gift also supports two additional leadership positions responsible for programs at Severance Music Center, partnerships with schools and universities, digital learning content, adult education offerings, and advocacy initiatives to broaden access to orchestral music. Finally, it further establishes a paid internship in the education department for college and graduate students pursuing careers in arts education administration.
In 2019, Jane B. Nord created the Education Concert Access Fund, ensuring that regional students can attend Cleveland Orchestra Education Concerts free of charge. In 2022, the family established the Jane B. and Eric T. Nord Education Fund to provide ongoing support for these concerts and transportation subsidies for Title I schools. In 2023, Jane B. Nord received the Orchestra’s Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her exceptional commitment to music education.
