
The Cleveland Orchestra Announces Major Honors for Outgoing Board Chair
By David SalazarThe Cleveland Orchestra is set to honor Richard K. Smucker, Chairman Emeritus of The J.M. Smucker Company, as he concludes his tenure as Chairman of the Orchestra’s Board of Trustees.
Smucker, a trustee since 1989 who was elected to the Board Chair in 2017, will receive the Orchestra’s Distinguished Service Award during the Oct. 9 concert at the Severance Music Center. The award was established by the Board of Trustees in 1996 and celebrates individuals whose exceptional commitment and service have profoundly shaped its success.
Moreover, the Orchestra has announced the creation of the Richard K. Smucker President & CEO Chair, the organization’s first permanently named staff position. The newly endowed chair is currently held by President & CEO André Gremillet.
“It has been a privilege to work alongside Richard,” said Gremillet, per an official press release. “His passion for music and steadfast belief in the importance of The Cleveland Orchestra, both locally and internationally, have inspired us all. Establishing this chair in his name is our way of thanking him for his outstanding leadership and unwavering support.”
