The Atlanta Opera has world premiered “Orfano Mondo” on its Spotlight Media streaming platform.

The work, which stars and was created by baritone Ryan McKinny in collaboration with filmmaker Felipe Barral, is broken up into a episodic series of eight episodes. The first four episodes are currently available. Each episode lasts between 10-15 minutes.

The video uses footage and draws inspiration from The Atlanta Opera’s recent Big Tent productions of “Pagliacci” and “The Kaiser of Atlantis. Each video aims to recontextualize an aria from the fall productions with behind-the-scenes moments combined with scenes filmed specifically for the project.

“This series of eight chapters isn’t just about the stories of the characters in the operas, but the story of the artists who embody them. How it feels to sing in a mask, behind plastic, in a circus tent, for an adoring audience, while contemplating not only the mortality of your character, but your own. I wanted to give people a feeling of what it was like to be there,” McKinny said in a press release.
