The American Opera Project to Present Second Installment of ‘Note/Books’ Series

By Logan Martell

The American Opera Project has announced the second event in their partnership with The Center for Fiction on “Note/Books.” The series features libretto readings with musical excerpts of new operas that are inspired by contemporary novels and launched on March 11, 2020.

May 13 will see an early look at “The Night Falls,” a dance-driven work that blends movement, opera, and musical theatre; with book and libretto by Karen Russell, music and lyrics by Ellis Ludwig-Leone, and choreographed and directed by Troy Schumacher. The event will be available for free through The Center for Fiction’s online event series platform.

The presentation includes two dance workshops from last year and an in-depth look at the work’s production process as it went from prose to opera to short story.

Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Executive Producer Emeritus Joseph V. Melillo will moderate the event.
