The American Opera Project to Premiere ‘Spring Street’

By David Salazar

Composer Peter M. Wyer and The American Opera Project will present the online premiere of “Spring Street” on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

The unique opera, which features poems by Steve Dalachinsky and Yuko Otomo, was inspired by Spring Street in New York City. The opera tells the story of three characters who live in the same apartment block and have unique experiences of the city.

The opera, which is billed as a “wildly eclectic opera film with musical styles from Baroque to 80’s disco,” stars soprano Joy Tamayo, mezzo-soprano Maren Montalbano, and bass-baritone Heday Inoue. The video was created by film director Matt Gray. The opera was recorded at Eastside Sound in New York City.

The stream will be available on Jeeni.
