
The 2025 George and Nora London Foundation Competition Announces New Program Details
By Afton MarkayThe George and Nora London Foundation Competition has released updates regarding the 2025 final competition.
This year, the final round of the competition for American and Canadian opera singers will be open to the public and will be made available via live stream. A dozen competitors will perform in the final round with pianist Lachlan Glen before a panel of judges and a live audience. Each finalist will perform one selection, and the winners are announced to the audience immediately after the judges’ deliberations.
This year’s judges are soprano Harolyn Blackwell, mezzo-soprano Susan Quittmeyer, tenor Dimitri Pittas, bass James Morris, and soprano and former Executive Director of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Gayletha Nichols, who will act as chair.
Also, to mark the 30th anniversary of its annual recital series by George London Award winners, the Foundation has announced its first commission. A Song Cycle Based on Nora London’s WWII Diary by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer. It will be given its world premiere by 2022 George London Award winner and mezzo-soprano Megan Moore. This recital is scheduled for April 6 at The Morgan.
The 53rd George and Nora London Foundation Competition will take place at New York’s Morgan Library and Museum on Feb. 21, at 4 pm.
