Tête à Tête Announces Wider 2022 Season

Tête à Tête, the U.K.’s “outlandish opera company,” has announced its wider 2022 season with events scheduled in London, Cornwall, and Newcastle ahead of the 15th iteration of Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival in Sept. 2022.

In May, the company will present “Odysseys,” six brand-new mini-operas in which unexpected protagonists—from the metamorphosis of a butterfly to a zombie—embark on journeys of self-acceptance in this Bill Bankes-Jones production. Tête à Tête’s Music Director Timothy Burke conducts a cast featuring Richie Johnsen, Sam Norman, Eluned Davies, Alfie Coates, Michael Hughes, Jack Crowe, Tymon Zgorzelski, Olga Tokarczuk, Jennifer Croft, Liam Dougherty, and Darren Sng.

Performance Dates: May 14-15, 2022, at Britten Theatre

Next up, in June, Tête à Tête will present “The Firework-Maker’s Daughter.” The show is based on Philip Pullman’s novel and features music by David Bruce with words by Glyn Maxwell. Lila, a firework-maker’s daughter, dreams of becoming a firework-maker herself. On her journey for hidden knowledge, she encounters goddesses, demons, pirates, and lovesick elephants. Starring in the production is Lixin Liu, Ryan Vaughan Davies, Feargal Mostyn-Williams, William Dalzeley, Andrew Slater, and Kevos (instrumentalists). Bill Bankes-Jones directs with Patrick Bailey as Music Director.

Performance Dates: June 21-July 1, 2022, at The Minack Theatre near Land’s End and July 3, 2022, at Prideaux Place, Padstow

In July, the company stages a new community opera titled “Home.” The production, led by Timothy Burke, explores what “home” means to the people of North Shields. “Home” features Tyne Coast Arts Collective, Can’t Sing Choir, Backworth Male Voice Choir, Forever Dance, North Tyneside Music Education Hub Choirs, and Royal Northern Sinfonia. Bill Bankes-Jones directs.
