American tenor Bryan Register is set to make his role debut in “Rusalka” on Oct. 18, 2019 at the Opera National du Rhin.

The tenor, who will also be making his house debut is stepping into the role just a few weeks before opening night and has undertaken the task of learning the opera in just over one week.

He joins a cast that includes Pumeza Matshikiza and Patricia Bardon and will be conducted by Antony Hermus.

“To learn a new role in a language you don’t speak in under two weeks is impressive enough, but to arrive at first rehearsal with such a detailed understanding of the role was nothing short of extraordinary,” noted Hermus in a press release from the company.  “Bryan is able to take incredible risks in his singing and to inflect phrases with an array of colors that are all used to portray his character’s emotions, a quality I greatly admire in an artist.”

The tenor has appeared with such companies as La Monnaie, the Grange Park Opera and the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theatre. He received the Birgit Nilsson Scholarship after the legendary artists heard him perform.
