Tenor Bryan Hymel To Take on Major Staff Position At AVA

By David Salazar

Tenor Bryan Hymel is joining the Academy of Vocal Arts Staff as the Vice President. The tenor is part of AVA’s class of 2008.

Per a press release, the tenor will be helping on a national and international level, helping the institution secure donations outside the greater Philadelphia area as well as help recruit young artists to AVA. He will also be tasked with recruiting teachers, stage directors, and conductors to work at his Alma Mater and will be the conservatory’s primary spokesperson around the world.

“I have been looking forward to this day since I was a young Resident Artist at AVA,” the tenor stated. “I know that the AVA approach for training singers is unique in the world and the best way to show singers how to successfully navigate a career in opera. I look forward to bringing these wonderful aspects of AVA to future generations of singers and opera lovers, alike.”

That isn’t to say that he is done performing. Hymel will balance his new position with his current status as one of the world’s foremost tenors.

He is currently taking a break from the stage, though he is next slated for performances of “Les Troyens” in Paris in early 2019 as well as “Rigoletto” at the Metropolitan Opera. He is also set to return to the Royal Opera House for a production of “Carmen.”
