Teatro San Carlo Cancels Opening Night of ‘Maometto II’ Due to Strike

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro San Carlo has canceled its opening performance of “Maometto II” on Oct. 25, 2023.

The company said that due to the national strike that calls for the renewal of the National Collective Labor Agreement of the Opera and Symphonic Foundations, the opening performance will not be able to take place.

As a result, ticketholders can exchange for another performance or request a refund.

“Maometto II” will now open on Oct. 29 and is set to be conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Calixto Bieito. The cast will include Dmitry Korchak, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Varduhi Abrahamyan, Li Danyang, Roberto Tagliavini, and Andrea Calce. The opera is set to run through Nov. 5, 2023.
