Teatro Real de Madrid Uses Intimacy Coordinator for the First Time in ‘Theodora’
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro Real de Madrid announced that for the first time in its history, it has contracted an intimacy coordinator for its production of Händel’s “Theodora.”
Platea Magazine is reporting that the company contracted Ita O’Brien to coordinate the production’s sex and violent scenes.
During the press conference, soprano Julia Bullock who takes on the title role said, “The work with the intimacy coordinator allowed me to concentrate fully as much on the actions as on the thoughts, to communicate in the best possible way with all my colleagues during the week that our work lasted, and to come out totally intact, without worries, without the problems that sometimes are there and affect our nervous system when delicate things happen.”
“Theodora” is being staged in Katie Mitchell’s Royal Opera House production and is set to star Bullock alongside Iestyn Davies, Ed Lyon, Callum Thorpe, Thando Mjandana, and Joyce DiDonato. Ivor Bolton conducts the Coro y Orquesta Titulares del Teatro Real. The production will run between Nov. 11 and 23, with the Nov. 17 performance streamed on My Opera Player.
