Teatro Olimpico to Present ‘Sabbioneta Chamber Opera Festival’
By Afton WootenTeatro Olimpico in Sabbioneta has announced the return of the “Sabbioneta Chamber Opera Festival.”
Barbara Frittoli, Sara Mingardo, Laura Polverelli, Vivica Genaux, Joseph Dahdah, Said Gobechiya, and Maria Elena Pepi are among performers.
The festival opens with with Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde,” directed by maestro Marco Tezza. There will be a concert version of “La Cenerentola in viaggio a Sabbioneta,” presented along with other pieces by Rossini. “Inno a Maria” a sacred music concert, Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater,” Vivaldi’s “Nisi Dominus,” “La Canzone dei Ricordi” by Martucci, a concert of Baroque music, and a masterclass lead by Barbara Frittoli’s with accompaniment by Alessandro Marini is also programmed. The “Sabbioneta Chamber Opera Festival” will end with the comic intermezzo “Rosicca e Morano” by Francesco Feo.
The mayor of Sabbioneta Marco Pasquali said in a press release, “Proposing cultural events of this quality and establishing important collaborations like this one from time to time is not at all banal. A Festival that aims to connect the Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza with the one in Sabbioneta by Scamozzi, a Festival that becomes international, young and attentive to history at the same time, that focuses on quality and continuous research, thanks to the work of the artistic director Andrea Castello who also this year returns to fill our Teatro all’Antica and other magical places in Sabbioneta with great music”
The festival runs Sept. 21 through Oct. 6, at the Teatro all’Antica.
