Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo to Stream 4 Operas on World Opera Day

The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá will celebrate World Opera Day on October 25 with the streaming of “Gianni Schicchi,” “Aida,” “Tosca,” and “Il Trovatore.”

Entitled “Opera: a Window to Emotions,” the streams that will be presented jointly by Bancolombia, with the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, through the District Institute of the Arts and the Stage of the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, with the aim of highlighting the impact and importance of opera in the history of the performing arts.

Opera lovers and new audiences will be able to join this commemoration through www.teatrodigital.com which will begin with the broadcast of  Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi;” this production was awarded with the Best New Latin American Production prize at the Ópera Premios XXI. The stage director is Ramiro Gutiérrez Castro, with conductor José Alejandro Roca leading the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra.

Audiences can also check out Verdi’s “Aida” in a production from the Teatro Real de Madrid and the Abu Dhabi Festival. Puccini’s “Tosca” will feature Andrés Orozco-Estrada as musical director and Pedro Salazar as the director. “Il Trovatore” will be featured in a production from the Teatro Real de Madrid, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and Royal Danish Opera.
