Premios Ópera XXI Announces 2022 Winners

The Premios Ópera XXI has announced the 2022 winners awarded from a jury at the Teatro Real.

The winner of the best new production went to “Lessons in Love and Violence” in a production by Katie Mitchell at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The awards for Best singers went to baritone Ludovic Tézier who took the male award for his performances of Conte di Luna in “Il trovatore” at the Liceu and Germont in “La traviata” at the Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Female award went to Asmik Grigorian for her performance in “Rusalka” at the Teatro Real de Madrid.

Marina Monzó won the award for young singer for her turns in “Don Giovanni” at the Teatro Real, “Così fan tutte” at the Palau de less Arts, and “Un ballo in maschera” at the Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla.

For Best Conductor, Ivor Bolton was awarded for leading productions of “Partenope” and “Peter Grimes” at the Teatro Real de Madrid. Meanwhile, Laurent Pelly won Best Director for  “Viva la Mamma” at the Teatro Real and “La Cenerentola” at the Palau de les Arts.

Colón Fábrica, del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires won the award for for Best Initiative to foment and broadcast opera around the world. Finally, “Gianni Schicchi” from the Teatro Mayor de Santo Domingo de Bogotá won Best New Production from Latin America.
